IN-DEPTH STUDY OF THE MEANING OF AL-QUR’AN    4 Credit Hours

The ultimate goal, of this course, is to help you read Al-Qur’an as if it is being revealed to you today and for you to dig deep into the meaning of every word and its unique usage in every Ayah.

Also, the goal of this course is to help the student be able to reach an In-Depth Study of the Meaning of Al-Qur’an by:

 

- realizing the importance of having an In-Depth Study of the Meaning of Al-Qur’an

- knowing how to apply the proper methods that can help in extracting the deep meanings of the Ayaat of the Noble Qur’an and its teachings according to the authentic rules and principles of the Muslim scholars

- being able to know the methods of the well-known predecessors in their ways of having in-depth meaning of Al-Qur’an and how it molded their daily life and comparing them to our todays methods of studying Al-Qur’an.

- becoming aware of the actual meaning of Al-Ayaat and any ruling that they might carry.

The course will mainly focus on:

First: the theoretical aspects which will cover:

1- the definition of an In-Depth Study of the Meaning of Al-Qur’an

2- the difference between In-Depth Study of the Meaning of Al-Qur’an verses the contemplation of Al-Qur’an

3- the difference between In-Depth Study of the Meaning and the individual’s own interpretation of Al-Qur’an

4- the importance of the In-Depth Study of the Meaning of Al-Qur’an and how Allah and His beloved Prophet (pbuh) highly praised those who were blessed to reach such a level of studying Al-Qur’an and were truly deserving to be called by Allah “the scholars”.

5- the Ayaat and the ‘Ahadeeth that address the in-Depth Study of the Meaning of Al-Qur’an as well as the process of contemplation

6- the different explicit and implicit meanings of Al-Ayaat and the wisdom they carry

7- the predecessors’ method of In-Depth Study of the Meaning of Al-Qur’an and their ways of extracting the meanings of Al- Qur’an

8- the basis which In-Depth Study of the Meaning of Al-Qur’an was formed upon which include:

- knowing the predecessors’ methods of Tafseer Al-Qur’an

- knowing the Arabic language and how to rely mainly on how Al-Qur’an used it

- knowing the fundamental basis of Tafseer Al-Qur’an

- knowing the main goals of aims and general goals of As-Sharee’

- knowing the causes of revelation, the integration of Ayaat as well as the Suras

and the main themes of the Suras and their impact on Tafseer Al-Qur’an

9- the tools which will help you to achieve an In-Depth Study of the Meaning of Al-Qur’an:

- knowing Allah they right way that He Loves to be known

- reading Al-Qur’an with contemplation and patience

- reciting with full understanding

- reciting while following the rules of recitation                    

10- the outcomes and the fruits of knowing the In-depth meaning of Al-Qur’an will:

- lead to the true Iman (belief) in Allah and to reach a higher level and increased Iman

- help to truly love Allah, enjoy submission to Him and to maintain a balance of hope and fear

- will lead to putting Iman into practice

Second: the application:

- selection of certain Ayaat where the student needs to study them by applying the methods of In-depth study so that he/she will be able to analyze their meaning, find out any rulings, wisdoms or lessons through following  these applications:

- knowing the meaning of the Ayah through the methods of Traditional Tafseer

- knowing the meaning of the Ayah by applying the methods of Tafseer that the companions of the Prophet (pbuh) used

- analyzing the meaning of each word that form the Ayah from a linguistic base and be fully aware of different derivations that each word could have and how such meanings can help in reaching an In-depth meaning of the Ayah as long as the outcome does not contradict with the main methods of Tafseer which the famous Muslim scholars adopted.

- finding out the Fiqh rules, values and morals, different aspects of miracles, wisdoms and ways of loving Allah and the right way of submission to Him while maintaining the balance between love and fear
